Two People Severely Injured While Changing Tire Alongside I-15 in Temple Wednesday Night
The Temple Police Department has released the identity of a man suspected of severely wounding two people as they were trying to change a flat tire alongside I-35 in Temple Wednesday night.
A man and a woman whose identities have not been released were outside their vehicle on the side of the northbound Exit 304 ramp shortly before midnight. They were struck by another vehicle, the driver of which police say sped away from the scene.
The two were transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Their current conditions were not made public Thursday morning.
The suspect, 36-year-old Billy Ray Polk of Temple, was located near the scene and taken into custody. Police say Polk demonstrated signs of intoxication. Their investigation remained active late Thursday morning, and further details were not released. We'll provide updates as they become available.
Bell County Jail records indicate Polk was booked into the facility at 1:48 AM Thursday and charged with an unspecified third degree felony. Bond information was not immediately available. Polk remained in the jail Thursday.
