Waco, Texas has had some pedestrians fall victim to some unfortunate fates recently, and one such pedestrian fatality from back in February is still an ongoing hit and run case that has yet to produce a suspect for the Waco Police Department.

Based on recent statistics, about 15% of pedestrians that are involved with motor vehicle accidents in the Lone Star State do not survive. In 2023, Texas lost more than 800 pedestrians out of almost 6,000 total accidents.

According to this KCEN article, a pedestrian was attempting to cross at a non designated section near the intersection shown in the image above of 7th Street and Jack Kultgen Expressway just south of the Brazos River. Baylor University is just a few blocks northeast of where this tragic accident occurred, and you have numerous co-eds crossing at any given spot and moment in the day or night.

Not a lot of details have been given about the victim outside of their being a 64 year old male, and more information will be given once next of kin have been notified. What we do know is the driver of the vehicle did stop to render aid, and has been cooperative with police.

Being a pedestrian in a very busy travel state like Texas and its 30+ million residents can be challenging. Yes, we often have the right of way, but when an accident happens, it is the pedestrian that suffers the most.
