The work week is just getting started and already Temple Fire & Rescue firefighters are earning their pay after responding to an early morning alarm for a house fire.

According to a press release from the City of Temple, the distress call came at 2:40 AM, with the first unit arriving at the vacant home located at 1104 South Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive at 2:45 AM. According to the Department account, a heavy fire was coming from the house, but "a defensive or exterior attack" was used to bring the fire under control by 3:04 AM. Eight vehicles and twenty firefighters jumped into action. Temple Police, Scott & White EMS and Oncor Electric also responded.

As expected, the house received extensive damage. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is on the case to determine the cause of the fire.
