With temperatures expected to dip into the 30's Sunday night into Monday morning, the City of Killeen is opening a warming station to provide relief for those in need.

Hilary J. Shine, Executive Director of Communications for the City of Killeen, said Sunday afternoon that the Killeen Community Center at 2201 E. Veterans Memorial Boulevard will serve as a warming center from 10 PM Sunday, November 29 to 8 AM Monday, December 30.

"The warming station is set up to offer temporary relief from cold and does not offer full sheltering services," Shine added.

In Temple, Impact Temple Church at 306 East Adams Avenue will operate a warming shelter with showers and food. However, they have very limited space and will be serving those most at need beginning at 6 PM. Volunteers will conduct COVID-19 screenings such as temperature checks and some questions to be on the safe side.

There is also a Salvation Army warning station at 419 West Avenue G in Temple.

If you know of anyone in need of a warm place to stay, please share with them this information or consider a way you might help as well.

With temperatures expected to be so cold, we should also be mindful of outdoor pets. Please do not leave animals outside in these cold temperatures if they do not have access to a warm, dry place to shelter. Otherwise, bring them inside for the night. If it's too cold for you, it's too cold for them.

You should also bring inside any potted plants that might be harmed by the cold.
