A local man was in jail Monday after police say he broke into a woman's home and attacked her early last month.

On Thursday, July 9, police were dispatched to a house in the 300 block of South 2nd Street in reference to a shooting. Officers were told that 60-year-old Douglas Craig Ford had broken into the home and choked a woman.

A man in the house grabbed a gun and told Ford to leave. The man told police Ford at first walked outside onto the porch, but turned around to come back inside. That's when the man said he shot Ford in the leg.

Police ruled the shooting self-defense, and after a short investigation a warrant was issued for Ford's arrest on a charge of burglary of a habitation.

Fast forward to Sunday, August 23. Police were called about a possible domestic disturbance at the Walmart at 6801 West Adams Avenue in Temple. Officers were told Ford had just walked away from the disturbance. He was found nearby, and police confirmed that he had active warrants.

Ford was arrested and taken to the Bell County Jail. Records indicate he was booked at 12:21 AM Monday, August 24. His roster entry lists a charge of first degree felony burglary of a habitation, two charges of theft of property, and three charges of illegal dumping. He remained in the Bell County Jail Monday with bonds totaling $153,000.
