A Temple Police Department employee has been placed on paid investigative leave after being named in a child abuse allegation.

A TPD spokesperson said Tuesday that the department was contacted Thursday, May 5 about a patient at McLane's Children's Hospital in Temple being treated for injuries consistent with possible abuse.

To protect the child's privacy and safety, the department has not released the patient's name, nor have they released the name or position of the employee. In a press release, the department simply said an allegation against the employee was made and the employee was placed on leave Friday, May 6.

On Monday, May 9, the department contacted the Texas Rangers to "request their assistance in the investigation to ensure an independent and transparent process", a TPD statement read.
