UPDATE 2-20-21, 11:45 AM: The boil water notice issued Friday for Temple residents east of I-35 has been lifted.


A boil water notice was issued for East Temple after work crews discovered a main break Friday morning.

Residents living east of I-35 who currently have water service were asked to boil water meant for human consumption until further notice.

"To ensure the destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to consumption," a notice from the City of Temple read. "The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, you may use bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source."

City officials said utility crews were actively repairing the break, and that they'll notify the public when water is one again safe for consumption.

Residents with questions or concerns were asked to call (254) 298 5611.

The notice comes as many in Temple are still without power, which in some cases could make boiling difficult or impossible at the moment. City officials have advised citizens to contact Oncor at by calling 888-313-4747, texting OUT to 66267, using the MyOncor app, or visiting Oncor.com. Frustrated residents say they've reached out to Oncor, only to be met with an automated messages.

Meanwhile, road conditions remained hazardous Friday morning, but the forecast calls for sunny skies and temperatures above freezing that should help roadways start to thaw and become less perilous. However, it is strongly recommended that you stay put if possible. If you must travel, please give yourself plenty of time, take it slow, and be aware that roadways will still be slick with ice and sludge.
